Inari Tales

Inari Tales is an offshoot of my series Nine Tails, but the main thing that connects all of these stories is the presence of the Japanese kami (god/goddess) Inari and various supernatural entities from Japanese lore.

Jacob attended a costume party in a cheap samurai costume, never expecting to meet a wild kitsune and learn far more than he’d ever dreamed about Eastern mysticism … and love.

*Charmed is a 9,000-word short story that was originally written for a line called "Disguised Desires." The theme of this line was masquerades and mistaken identity.*

Rio tried to seduce the wrong person, and that earned him the wrath of a kitsune and the attention of a powerful kami. He escapes without punishment, but fate isn’t done with him yet.

Grateful for the mercy he was shown, Rio readily agrees when the kami Inari asks him for a favor. The son of an incubus, Rio has always been skilled at seduction, and Inari believes Rio is the perfect match for a lonely prince who rules over a distant mountain region. Rio feels uncertain at first, but one look into Arata’s eyes gives Rio the courage to trust Inari’s instincts. The prince seems less sure about their potential, but Rio has no intention of backing down from this challenge.

When Okuninushi predicts how Shiro will meet his mate, skepticism outweighs hope. Shiro isn’t sure he deserves a mate, but he’s intrigued when he meets Dean in a way that matches Okuninushi’s prediction so perfectly. Nothing about Dean impresses Shiro, at first, but that only makes him more curious about why the red string of fate binds them. One challenge after another comes along to stall their progress, but Shiro won’t give up until he and his mate finally get the chance to find out if their souls are truly made for each other.

Yuma has one goal—fighting alongside the Kitamura brothers and the kami Inari to defeat Tomoe once and for all.

Koji has a goal as well—getting Yuma to admit they’re mates and finally put the love between them into words.

Tomoe continues to elude them while also managing to wreak havoc on all their lives. Yuma struggles with his need for control and his fear of opening up completely, but before he can say all that is in his heart, Tomoe enacts a plan to separate Yuma and Koji forever.

Years ago, Koji came into Yuma’s life just in time to save him from death at Tomoe’s hands. Now, Yuma will stop at nothing to rescue his mate and end Tomoe’s reign of terror forever.

Kaen knew he’d found his mate the moment he first saw Riku. Having the dream eater immediately threaten him with a knife wasn’t the best start, but Kaen has always been patient.

Riku has faced many creatures over the years, and he’s always managed to best every one of them in the end. Kaen is different, though. The shinigami is ready for a fight, but Riku’s love is the prize he craves.

Ghosts from the past refuse to die, and their love seems doomed before it’s truly begun. Yet the red string of fate binds them, and Inari assures them the string is never wrong. And it can never be broken. A new battle looms, and if they win, centuries of loneliness will fade into the past as these two outsiders finally find a place to belong … together.
